There’s a small change to how it plays out, though, which has some major implications. The scene actually comes from the original game’s bonus Assignment: Ada chapter, which follows Ada as she collects Plaga samples through the game. While the remake cuts that codex call, it does still include a post-credits scene that’s crucial to the series’ future. Instead, Hunnigan can be heard on Leon’s radio as he and Ashley jet ski to safety, asking for an update on the mission status. Thankfully, that whole sequence has been cut. “Story of my life!” he whines after getting turned down, in a hacky final line. The original game ends with a post-credits call with federal agent Ingrid Hunnigan, where Leon confirms that the mission is a success before hitting on her. The remake cuts out one more dated scene for good measure. It’s a sweet moment that addresses one of the original’s biggest criticisms, giving the “damsel in distress” a more complete character arc. He declines, noting that she can take care of herself. Instead, she asks Leon if he’d like her to put a good word in with her dad (who happens to be the President) to get Leon assigned to her security detail. Notably, it gets rid of a creepy line where Ashley asks Leon if he’d like to do a little “overtime” with her. The final moment has Leon and Ashley sharing a friendly moment on the jet ski. As they leave, they discover that the villagers infected with Las Plagas have been neutralized now that Saddler is dead. ![]() The timed getaway sequence that follows plays out mostly the same way, as Leon and Ashley make their way to the jet ski and safely navigate off the island before it blows up. Instead, Ada comes off as much more of an anti-hero in the finale, helping Leon and Ashley escape. She doesn’t set the bomb off herself, further removing the original’s supervillain ending. ![]() Image used with permission by copyright holderĪs Ada leaves, an explosion rocks the island, prompting Ada to toss Leon her jet ski key. He declines and notes that it’s where the duo goes their “separate ways” - a pointed reference to a piece of Resident Evil 4 DLC starring Ada. It isn’t a dramatic escape Ada even asks Leon if she wants to join him on the helicopter. Rather than holding a gun to Leon’s head, Ada simply picks up the sample while Leon is lying down and notes that she and Luis had “an arrangement.” She casually strolls over to an approaching helicopter, promising to take good care of the sample, and climbs onboard. Things play out very differently in 2023. She’s purely a villain in the 2005 edition’s climax. There’s no explanation for the betrayal, as Ada quickly jumps onto a helicopter, starts a timer on a bomb hidden in the island, and tosses Leon the keys to a jet ski. In the original game, Ada Wong essentially double-crosses Leon by taking the sample from him at gunpoint. Resident Evil 4’s best speedrunning glitch removed in latest update It remains, as it always was, maddeningly inconsistent.Capcom Showcase 2023: how to watch and what to expect The best I can say is that it is an earnest effort at recapturing the magic, and it’s worth checking out. Meanwhile, if you didn’t like its first iteration, it’s not impossible that this will change your mind. It changes just enough that, if you loved the original, I can’t guarantee this will leave you unperturbed. Unlike the Resident Evil 2 remake, which was revolutionary, Resident Evil 4’s glow-up is more of a faithful recreation rather than an overhaul. It also shifted the Resident Evil series into its worst era, as Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 both followed its example before Capcom eventually corrected its course.īack in 2005, I liked Resident Evil 4, but I didn’t love it. The over-the-shoulder camera angle employed was tremendously influential for years to come. Resident Evil 4 was a groundbreaking title that shifted the direction of big-budget development. I know there was some concern that Capcom would play it too straight with Resident Evil 4, but with a few exceptions, it’s just as atonal as it was originally. The main antagonists have all returned, and they’re all still as shockingly out-of-place as they were before. Dialogue is redone, but Leon “Sicknasty” Kennedy still spouts ridiculous one-liners. This also means that certain things that might not be to people’s tastes are also often changed. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I feel like they did pretty well on hitting that target. It tries to land in a sweet spot of addressing past complaints and modernizing while retaining what people loved about Resident Evil 4. It may look prettier, and you can move when you shoot, but thematically and mechanically, it’s more similar than dissimilar. However, I feel like I must stress that this is still entirely Resident Evil 4. ![]() There is a tremendous list of omissions and additions made here too exhaustive for the contents of this review.

Will it show up in future weapon technology? Of course. Will AI technology start showing up in medical devices, autos, business software, home appliances and more? Of course. Personally, I’m looking at it to see how characters in games could be more lifelike, and how world or character creation could be automated. You can expect to see AI technology showing up in products everywhere. Specifically, the company behind ChatGPT is making available to companies an API so that anyone could use their technology within products. It doesn’t take a very active imagination to envision how AI could be horribly abused. I don’t know how this will play out, anymore than I could have predicted back in 1990 what the internet has become today, but I can tell you that my testing indicates that AI is real, and it is scary good. Hassell’s piece is the odd one out here, but its flickering electronics and gorgeous piano and trumpet twinkle like lights on the far shore. Recently, Hassell’s groundbreaking work has been getting a long overdue reassessment, and more and more new artists are drawing on his reimagining (and inverting) of indigenous and ambient sounds for their own work. Most curious is the inclusion of fourth-world composer (and Brian Eno compatriot) Jon Hassell to the mix. ![]() It’s the shortest track on the comp, but the haunting voices that float across the spine-tingling keys of “Direction Asymmetry,” from Gerald Donald’s post-Drexciya project, Daughter Produkt, might be the most affecting, sure to pique Drexicya fans wondering what’s to come. Donato Dozzy, a longtime master of such chasm-like techno in Italy, also recalls that type of sound but with more nuanced results. Where the set fares best is in breaking from the merciless sound of techno and having its artists worm into the spaces between the beats. Shao’s “Sensi (edit)” fidgets and slowly ratchets up a sense of dread on the track, but at times it feels like an echo of the old Tresor sound. It segues into a track from newcomer Shao, who released his first single on Tresor in 2015. Those chords that mimic exhalations from the void that sense of serenity cut with the prickly buzz of cicadas-it remains intact here, save that its ethereal nod now lasts a precious three minutes longer. It’s a bit difficult to tell just how much has been tweaked on this version from the original. One of the first surprises is the opening track, Vainquer’s now-legendary “Solanus (Extracted 2).” Originally a B-side on the Chain Reaction label, it’s one of the defining beatless dubs to drift out in the mid-90s. Veering from woozy ambience to clanging techno and back, it shows the label to be in a transitional space of sorts. To help celebrate, the label presents Dreamy Harbor, a twelve-track assortment of older artists that helped establish the label, a few newcomers from the far corners of the globe, as well as a legendary composer not previously associated with the label. Though Benjamin is a challenging thinker and I doubtless missed things here and there, still I want to share what I got out of the piece. It is included in the collection of essays entitled Illuminations, which I’ve been reading in the past weeks, but I had been meaning to have a look at this particular essay for much longer, since I had guessed already that its contents would appeal to me. This is a truly magnificent show and should be required viewing for the whole family, or anyone who believes that art and television are mutually exclusive.“The Storyteller”, or “Die Erzähler”, is an essay, written in 1936, by the German-Jewish intellectual Walter Benjamin, consisting on one level of a discussion of the stories of the little-known Russian writer Nikolai Leskov, and on another of Benjamin’s views on the division between stories and storytelling, and novels and writing. But older kids, or ones who can handle a chill, will be stunned silent by the grandeur of these stories. Speaking of that, The Storyteller's darkness and realism may be too much for young or sensitive kids: characters are put in mortal danger over and over again, and even the show's narrator is a bit creepy and seems to tell of the character's travails with just a little too much relish. The makeup and costumes are stunning, every bit the equal of big-budget movies, with actors realistically turned into creatures like a shivering hedgehogs and terrifying trolls. Henson's studio spared no expense, collecting a dream roster of acting talent, giving them snappy dialogue and fantastic stories, and then polishing the visuals until they're positively magic. The hatters essentially went “mad” after working with mercury for almost 100 years. It would affect their teeth, tongue, eyelids, limbs, and even alter their personalities to become irritable and paranoid. At the time, it wasn’t yet discovered that mercury was actually poisonous, and all of the hatters began showing unusual symptoms. In the 1730s, they realized that if they added a little bit of mercury to cheap furs they were able to find, that it would turn into felt. Hatters, the hat makers, realized they were running out of felt and needed a quick fix for the high demand of top hats. Back in the 16th century, every European man was supposed to wear a felt hat anytime they went out in public - a societal fashion trend. It has been a rumor for a while that the Mad Hatter actually got his name and quirky personality from a real-life event in the 17s. It is hypothesized that Carroll created the characters based on people who knew in his real life, as most authors tend to do. However, majority of the main characters are involved in both stories. There are a few characters from Lewis Carroll’s story that did not make it into the 1951 Disney film, such as The Lory, The Eaglet, The Duck, Pat, Puppy, The Mock Turtle, and others.
